Our mission is to cultivate, preserve and promote a healthy, safe, and prosperous community

Our story

Property owners back in 1993 were becoming alarmed when a nearby recycling center began generating more crime in their area. What started out with good intentions and a way to clean up the community, turned into a liability when thieves began stealing items from local businesses to turn into the recycling center for profit. The increase in crime brought a wave of uneasiness over the community and forced them to find a way to combat the new threat. Searching for a way to protect their businesses, the Magnolia Industrial Group was formed. Their first mission, to get the city to close their recycling center so they could get a hold back on their community and prevent crime. The hurting community rallied around the MIG, and after many home and business owners banded together, it only took a few months before the center was exposed for violating city regulations and eventually closed. The MIG had accomplished what it was created to do, however they still had work yet to do in their area. Its members remained dedicated to decreasing crime and improving the appearance and the quality of life in the area.

After working with representatives from the City of Long Beach, they established an assessment district to raise funds necessary for a night-time security patrol, area beautification, and local communications. On July 15, 2003 again on July 23, 2013, the City Council of the City of Long Beach established the Magnolia Industrial Group and Business Improvement District.

Since its establishment, the MIG has seen crime rates in the area drop drastically, tenant occupancy rates sky rocket to all-time highs, and property values soar. The MIG was the first industrial organization in the country to have established an assessment district, and has been used as a model for similar organizations. Business owners within the MIG have used our organization as a springboard for community growth and improvement, the MIG’s legacy continues to grow today.
